Is a Discovery an Invention or Is an Invention a Discovery Free Essays

Is a discovery an invention or Is an Invention a discovery? This Is one question that can probably never be answered. A discovery can be defined as something which already existed, and is excavated after one notice’s it or proves its existence . Invention is the creation of something which didn’t exist before it was created by a genius mind . We will write a custom essay sample on Is a Discovery an Invention or Is an Invention a Discovery or any similar topic only for you Order Now For instance, Newton discovered the existence of gravity when an apple fell on his head. It did exist before Newton realizes its existence, but then why TLD anyone else notice Its existence except him? Hence It Is said that Newton discovered gravity. Whereas on the other hand Thomas Alva Edison was the first person to make the electric bulb and his technology was a baby of his brain which didn’t exist before he created it, hence it is said to be an invention. Almost all Areas of knowledge namely History, Art, Natural Science, Mathematics, Human science and ethics are both discovered and invented if different point of views are taken into consideration. Is mathematics invented or discovered? There are two questions which arise In the minds of people when they think of this. If math was discovered. Where and how Is one exactly looking for It? Is mathematics a language? The way poets add new words to English making it more understandable and expressive; does a mathematician do the same with numbers to make it as connected and expressive it is? Or did they just point out at things which always existed but were waiting to be discovered. And if it was that, then why it did only appear to these big minds and not to common men. How could Newton and Leibniz, who stayed seas apart, come up to almost the same conclusions regarding calculus, In the same time period? Since they did reach at the same conclusions, their source of knowledge could also be similar hence math could be discovered. On the other hand if math was invented, why wouldn’t we see the truth in â€Å"2+2=5†? Mathematics is based on a set of Axioms or what we call â€Å"postulates† which are basically statements that are assumed to be true without a proof. Therefore if â€Å"2+2=4† is an axiom without a proof, why do we believe so deep In It and use It In our dally affairs If there Is no possible proof to back It up? And If It were to be true, why wouldn’t a new concept of â€Å"2+2=5†³ hold truth If a mathematician has come up with It with his own sensible research? Therefore mathematics can be invented. Human efforts to imitate, supplement, alter, or counteract the work of nature. † One of the most controversial areas of knowledge is art. This is mainly because art is not definite as people’s definition of art is highly subjective. What might appeal to my eyes may not appeal to someone else’s eye. For a person a cave could be artistic, while for another it could be Just another cave. Therefore art depends on peoples perception. Some artists try to find creativity in already existing things. For instance, an artist walking by a tree denuded realizes that the tree resembles a woman. For him, that is a piece of art, which always existed, hence was discovered. However, that tree may not seem like a woman to another person and may look Just like a tree. Some artists invent something and call it a piece of art. For instance, if an artist carves a woman out of a tree, en NAS invented that piece tot art. But again it may not necessarily appeal to others as an artwork. There is also a third view point to this. If I make a statement, â€Å"l am hungry’, it is neither invented nor discovered. It is only the expression of my Houghton/feelings. The thought was created and brought out through the medium on language. Art too is a language used to express one’s creativity. It is only a medium and is neither invented nor discovered, it is only created. What is it that clouds every human decision? What is it that forms a base line for the humans to understand whether what they are doing is right or wrong? What is it that’s forms the human conscience? It is ethics. Ethics can be defined as, â€Å"A set of principles of right conduct. † Ethics are a list of rules which one has to follow to maintain a good conduct in the society. Our decisions and thoughts are completely governed by our ethics. Ethics are forced into us since our young early days. Every one at some point or the other remembers their parent’s telling them in their adolescence, â€Å"One should never lie†, â€Å"one should always keep their anger in their control†, and â€Å"one should always bow their head before the great God†. What are these that our parent’s are teaching us? These are ethics. These develop overtime and then they make us responsible humans. Were ethic’s invented or were they discovered? Let’s take for example, a comparison between the Indian culture and the Western culture a few cascades back. When widow remarriage was a taboo in the Indian culture, it was at accepted in the western culture. In India, one’s a husband expired because of what so ever reasons, the wife had to sit on his dead body and the family members would burn the living wife to death along with the dead husband. According to them, then, marriages were pairs made by God and sent to Earth. Therefore if the husband dies, the wife is also killed hence they stay in pairs even after death. That were the ethic’s of Indians at that time, where as the western had a totally opposite culture. If a Cubans died or visa versa, the other one could get remarried and settle down with a new family. Therefore if the kinds of ethics thought to humans are differentiated on the bases of factors, in this case, Religion, then ethics is to be invented. On the other hand when it is believed that killing people for our selfish meaner is not a good conduct. Robbing, abusing, insulting others is not the right thing to do. What are these? These are also ethics, but the only difference is that these are accepted world- wide. Maybe some countries have a small punishment for it and other have a terrible en but at the end everyone believes that it isn’t the right thing to do. Then how are these ethics not differentiated on the bases of religion or any other factors symbolizing diversity? This might be because ethics might be discovered and their source of discovery is either the same or it is similar. This is because if the conclusion of two problems is the same, either their source is similar or the same. Therefore ethics can either be invented or discovered or maybe created my religion or religious preachers in the olden times but nothing can be said with complete certainty. Endocrine System Physiology Example For Students

Endocrine System Physiology The endocrine system is the second greatest control system of the body and has many effects on the tissues and organs. The thyroid gland, which is a part of the endocrine system, releases a hormone that maintains metabolism. This hormone is thyroxine. Thyroxine production is controlled by thyroid stimulating hormone, which is released by the pituitary gland. TSH stimulates the thyroid gland to produce thyroxine. In this experiment, the effects of TSH and thyoxine on metabolic rate are investigated. Estrogen is a hormone produced by the ovaries that helps the uterus to develop. The removal of the ovaries eliminates the source of estrogen and the uterus cannot develop properly. In one of the following experiments, the effect of hormone replacement therapy is investigated. Insulin regulates blood glucose levels and is produced by the pancreas. When the pancreas does not produce insulin, the cells cannot absorb glucose from the blood. This results in diabetes mellitus type I. In one of the following experiments, the effects of insulin treatment are investigated for type I diabetes. Hypothesis Experiment 1: Determining Baseline Metabolic Rates I hypothesize that the metabolic rate will be greater for the normal rate, then the thyroidectomized rat. The hypox rate will have the lowest metabolic rate. Experiment 2: Determining the Effect of Thyroxine on Metabolic Rate I hypothesize that metabolic rate will increase with the injection of thyroxine. Experiment 3: Determining the Effect of TSH on Metabolic Rate I hypothesize that the injection of TSH will increase the metabolic rate of the all the rats except for the thyroidectomized rat. Experiment 5: Hormone Replacement Therapy I hypothesize that the rat receiving estrogen injections will have heavier more developed uterine tissue. Experiment 7: Comparing Glucose Levels Before and After Insulin Injection I hypothesize that glucose levels of the diabetic rat will be closer to the glucose levels of the normal rat after the insulin injection. Materials and Methods The materials used for this lab were the PhysioEx 6.0, the Human Anatomy Physiology Lab Manual and the computer. Experiment 1: Determining Baseline Metabolic Rates A normal rat was placed in the chamber and weighed. The clamp was then closed and the timer set to 1 minute. After 1 minute the manometer and syringe were connected and the clamp was opened. Air was injected into the tube until the fluid in each arm of the U-tube was level. The amount of O2 used in an hour was calculated and the metabolic rate for the normal rate was obtained. This process was repeated for the thyroidextomized rat and the hypopysectomized rat. Experiment 2: Determining the Effect of Thyroxine on Metabolic Rate A normal rat was injected with thyroxine and placed in the chamber and weighed. Experiment 3: Determining the Effect of TSH on Metabolic Rate A normal rat was injected with TSH and placed in the chamber and weighed. The metabolic rates of the Tx and the Hypox rat were lower than the metabolic rate of the normal rat. The Tx rat could not produce thyroxine because it had no thyroid gland. The Hypox rat could not produce TSH which stimulates the thyroid to produce thyroxin. The results of the thyroxine metabolic rate were as expected. The injection of thyroxine increased the metabolic rate for all rats. This is understandable as thyroxine is the most important hormone in maintaining metabolism. The injection provided the Tx rat with a source of thyroxine in place of the thyroid gland. The injection provided thryoxine for the Hypox rat in the absence of the pituitary gland to release TSH to stimulate the thyroid gland to produce thryoxine on its own. The results of the TSH metabolic rate were as expected. The metabolic rates for the normal and Hypox rats increased from the baseline rate. The injection of TSH would have had no effect on the Tx rat, as there was no thyroid gland to stimulate to release thyroxin. The injection provided the Hypox rat with a source of TSH to stimulate production of thyroxin in the thyroid gland. .ub0cdc909d827b9cd03e4350252fd5388 , .ub0cdc909d827b9cd03e4350252fd5388 .postImageUrl , .ub0cdc909d827b9cd03e4350252fd5388 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ub0cdc909d827b9cd03e4350252fd5388 , .ub0cdc909d827b9cd03e4350252fd5388:hover , .ub0cdc909d827b9cd03e4350252fd5388:visited , .ub0cdc909d827b9cd03e4350252fd5388:active { border:0!important; } .ub0cdc909d827b9cd03e4350252fd5388 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ub0cdc909d827b9cd03e4350252fd5388 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ub0cdc909d827b9cd03e4350252fd5388:active , .ub0cdc909d827b9cd03e4350252fd5388:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ub0cdc909d827b9cd03e4350252fd5388 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ub0cdc909d827b9cd03e4350252fd5388 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ub0cdc909d827b9cd03e4350252fd5388 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ub0cdc909d827b9cd03e4350252fd5388 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ub0cdc909d827b9cd03e4350252fd5388:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ub0cdc909d827b9cd03e4350252fd5388 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ub0cdc909d827b9cd03e4350252fd5388 .ub0cdc909d827b9cd03e4350252fd5388-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ub0cdc909d827b9cd03e4350252fd5388:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Bulimia EssayFactors that may have changed the results of the experiment would be human error. If a step were missed, such as forgetting to clean the syringe after each use, it would affect the results. There may be a problem with the software and this would definitely affect the results. This lab could have been completed in class with each lab, which would have been very interesting, although, I would not have enjoyed killing the rat at the end of the hormone replacement experiment. Another option would have been to have a more interactive computer simulation References Marieb, Elain (2006). Human Anatomy Physiology Laboratory Manual. 8th ed. Pearson Education, Inc. The Captain Essays - Baseball, New York Yankees Players,

The Captain Derek Jeter grew up playing baseball and was a spectacularly well-adjusted child . Due to his quick mind, well-being manner, and confidence that his parents built up in him, his bad days were few to far between . He succeeded at just about everything he tried, especially baseball . He knew the game like the back of his hand and he had and developed essential leadership attributes within the game . In high school, Derek was the team captain for the baseball team at Kalamazoo Central High School . By his junior year of high school, he was at the top of a lot of college scouting and recruiting lists . He batted . 557 and slugged seven home runs . Later, as a senior, Derek hurt his ankle . Despite the few at bats from the injury, he still hit . 508 and averaged 1 run batted in per game . Derek was determined to succeed and it paid off for him . A lot of professional and college eyes were on him and he did not want to disappoint . Michigan State offered Derek a full ride, but he was looking to go pro . New York rarely used first-round choices on a high school player, but Derek was an outlier due to his capabilities, work ethic, and leadership . Derek signed a contract for $700,000 including a promise by the Yankees to pay for his college education if he was to suffer a career-ending injury . Derek quickly began a process of transformation in order to better prepare himself for the pros and he adjusted quickly due to his hands on learning capabilities . Derek had all you could ask for as a coach from a learning and understanding point of view ( O'Connor, 2011 ) . His ability to quickly learn was contrary to his leadership as well . Even Though, Derek was blessed with talent and several other positive capabilities, he did struggle at times as well . His first year in pro ball in 1993, he had an impressive season for Greensboro, batting . 295 with 30 extra-base hits but he struggled defensively with 56 errors . He knew that his defense nee ded to improve in order to further continue his career and quickly began making changes . Derek was too determined to be satisfied . After his season in Greensboro, Derek was reassigned to Tampa for the Florida State League . In 69 games, he hit . 329 while stealing 28 bases . Derek was bumped up to Class (AA) Albany in June, and he continued to hit the ball well , batting . 377 in 34 games . He finished the year at Class (AAA) Columbus, with a . 349 batting average . Due to his stunning statistics, Derek was named Minor League Player of the Year and was able to join the Yankees during an All-Star convention . However, the managers of the Yankees wanted Derek to stay in the minors for another season in order to mature, since he was so young (O'Conner, 2011) . Derek did more than just mature in his next minor league season with the Clippers . He batted . 317 with 27 doubles and 9 triples in 123 games and led the International League in runs scored with 96 . In May of 1995, things made a turn for the best for Derek as the starting shortstop for the New York Y ankees, Fernandez got injured . Derek's hard work finally payed off and he was called up to the Yankees . However, Derek did not see much action, hitting . 250 overall in 15 games . As the 1996 season approached Derek earned his starting spot at shortstop and Fernandez became the substitute . As the season began however, Derek almost lost his spot . He played as though he was really nervous throughout spring training but finally relaxed when Fernandez broke his elbow in the final week before the actual season began (O'Connor, 2011) . On opening day, Derek became the first Yankee rookie to hit a homerun in the season's first game in 25 years . Derek made quite the debut for

Sample Essay on Whether Crime is Indistinguishable From Criminal Behavior

Sample Essay on Whether Crime is Indistinguishable From Criminal BehaviorBefore you begin writing a sample essay on whether crime is inherently human, you must first decide the subject of your essay. There are many different types of essay topics. Some of the most popular include: art, psychology, geography, history, literature, and religion. This article will address only the topic of crime. Many people in the past often considered the crimes of man to be all the same and argued that a society should not need to invest in a 'system of law' if all crimes were the same. The argument against this is that society and the state to invest money and time into the efforts to determine who is not guilty. In this case, the argument against the importance of a system of law for society and the state is that we no longer live in a society or state and therefore need a separate system for crimes committed by criminals.Crime is defined as anything that a person does that is illegal. It is obvious that there is a difference between criminal behavior and crime. Criminal behavior occurs outside of a particular society and does not require the same level of government support that a criminal would have within that society. A criminal, however, is a person who has committed crimes within a particular society and can be punished as a result of that crime, which is what society and the state are for.Now that you have decided the topic of your sample essay, you will now need to come up with an appropriate thesis statement. Your thesis statement is the most important part of the essay. You should try to avoid using the word crime or criminal unless you are quoting someone else in the essay. A premise is not your thesis; it is the starting point of your essay.Try to keep in mind the student's mindset when thinking about crime. They are trying to make sense of the fact that, depending on the type of crime, they may not go to jail or possibly worse. The student is also likely to have to decide whether to keep the perpetrator in their school, to hire a private investigator, or have the perpetrator transferred out of the school or into another district. These decisions will impact the person's life and may even have long-term effects, as well.A sample essay on whether crime is inherently human can be based on the classic dilemma of Pascal's wager. The rules of the game involve a statement made by a gambler at the beginning of the game, stating that anyone who has not made any bets should be required to pay a pre-agreed amount to the other player. The winner of the game is the player who pays the most amount and if that happens to be the player who has not bet, the player who bet is out of the game. If you have ever gambled, you know the importance of this game and how much fun it can be when a person knows the right move at the right time.Although the topic of crime is probably not one that you would consider for a sample essay, you can still use this example to hel p you come up with an essay that can be used in the literature class. Everyone thinks about crime at some point in their lives and if you are thinking about writing a composition on crime, it is not a bad idea to think about it and write a good essay. You might also want to consider doing some research on the topic of crime before you start writing the sample essay.

Free Essays on A Womans Right

A Woman’s Right Pornography. Is it a woman’s right or not? While there are many women who oppose pornography because they think it degrades and demeans women, I believe that there are many women who approve of pornography due to the many positive benefits it has for them such as providing sexual curiosity opportunities and improving couples sexual relationships. You would think that defining the word pornography would be a simple task, but it is not. There were a number of sources that I found in which defined the word pornography as some sort of violent and unjustified sexually explicit material. This was generally the case whenever I found an article against pornography. Unfortunately, there is no universal definition for pornography because everyone has their own ideas in their head of what they think it means. Pornography does not degrade and demean women. When most people think of pornography, or of who they think watches it, stereotypically, many people tend to visualize a lonely man sitting naked in front of his television set, one hand on his penis and the other on his beer watching two women perform oral sex on each other. Interestingly enough, pornography is not just base solely for one person; it is also beneficial to couples.... Free Essays on A Womans Right Free Essays on A Womans Right A Woman’s Right Pornography.

100% Complete LinkedIn Profiles A Dilemma for Job Seekers

100% Complete LinkedIn Profiles A Dilemma for Job Seekers In my How to Write a KILLER LinkedIn Profile webinar on June 22, 2012, delivered for ilostmyjob.com, an important question arose: If you are a job seeker, how should you complete the â€Å"current position† item in your profile? LinkedIn presents job seekers with a dilemma: The site requires an â€Å"up-to-date current position (with a description)† for a 100% complete profile (see Profile Completeness list on LinkedIn); and according to LinkedIn, 100% complete profiles are 40 times more likely to be viewed. But if you are a job seeker, you might not have a current position other than â€Å"job seeker.† Should you create a â€Å"filler† job description to be 100% complete? Or should you hope that 95%-or-so complete is enough? Adding to this dilemma is that recruiters, according to experts in the careers industry, do not like to see made-up job descriptions in the current position spot. They prefer for job seekers to call a spade a spade, i.e., leave the current position description blank if they are not employed. Resume and LinkedIn profile writers come down on multiple sides of this issue. There are upsides and downsides to all of these options; in the end, let the numbers (how many people find you, view your profile and contact you) guide your choice. Option #1 One camp says to put something in the current position field indicating you are a job seeker. You might give yourself a job title such as â€Å"Target position: VP Operations,† or â€Å"Seeking next opportunity as Graphic Designer.† You can then write a description of what you offer that adds to what you wrote in your Summary. In the company name field, you might enter â€Å"- â€Å"or â€Å"Seeking next opportunity.† Option #2 Some people recommend putting volunteer work as your current position, or your â€Å"job† as Manager of a LinkedIn group. I would not recommend either solution unless your volunteer or group manager work is close to full-time. There is a section you can add on LinkedIn called Volunteer Activities and Causes. That is the most appropriate spot in which to put your volunteer activities. Option #3 A third camp says to leave the current job description blank if you don’t have a job, and to complete as many parts of the profile as possible. If your profile is 95% complete, you should still do well in searches. The Essay Expert’s Recommendation You might want to try both Option #1 and Option #3. I wouldn’t recommend Option #2. The great thing about LinkedIn profiles is that you can always change them and do different things to see what works best for you. Try this: (1)  Ã‚  Ã‚   Write a current position that says, for example, â€Å"Target Position: General Manager, Automotive† or â€Å"Seeking Opportunities as Financial Analyst†   or â€Å"Program Manager   Candidate† and track how many people view your profile and how often you are appearing in search results (this information can be found on your home page in the right-hand column). (2)  Ã‚  Ã‚     If you are getting sufficient activity in your profile, great. Don’t change anything! If not, the first thing to consider is whether you have enough connections to appear toward the top of searches. I recommend having 500+ connections in order to reliably raise your ranking in search results and increase page views. (3)  Ã‚  Ã‚   If you have 500+ connections and your profile is still not getting enough attention, either change what you have in the â€Å"current position† section or make it blank for a month. Track your profile views and appearances in search results. (4)  Ã‚  Ã‚   Repeat Steps #2 and #3 until you get the results you want. There are more options than these of course. One place to get a sense of what might work is a QA on LinkedIn, begun by Executive Resume Writer Laura Smith-Proulx, which sheds some light on this question.   https://linkd.in/xDJhgq What strategies have been working for you?
